About Us

The Bruno Montessori campus is located on 25 acres of wooded lands with ponds, wildlife, and gardens.  Our students enjoy a natural environment rich in learning experiences and unique in the possibilities for personal growth, understanding, respect, and responsibility. It is this closeness to nature and all that we do and discover that helps us achieve respect and love for life.

The classrooms are even surrounded by walls of windows making them seem like extensions of the outside. Students here gain a true sense of community and belonging, and learn to accept challenges, solve problems, resolve conflicts, and grow into self-confident lifelong learners.

What is the driving force behind what we do?

Our educational practices are built around the theories of Jean Piaget and Howard Gardner, as well as Maria Montessori. We believe children are born with the need to explore and discover and with the strong desire to learn. Therefore, we treat their curiosity and creativity with great care allowing them to explore their interests from an early age. We provide the kinds of lessons, even the most challenging ones, that make learning exciting and stimulate the desire to find out more. Lessons are given to small groups of students or even individually, so that they can understand the concepts presented.  Our students are most important, and we have the time to listen and help them find answers.   Older students learn through seminars, laboratory experiments, and hands-on projects.   Lots of reading, research, and discussion are important parts of our curriculum.

At Bruno Academy, we encourage our students to develop independence, responsibility, resourcefulness, and organizational skills. Even in the lower academy students learn to use  individual work plans listing their goals for the week. When you visit Bruno Academy, you will see students working individually and cooperatively to get their work done, enjoying the total learning experience. The enthusiasm must be seen to be believed. Children learn the importance of having respect for one another and for their classroom environment. We have high expectations for our students, and they learn to set higher and higher standards for themselves.

The newest additions to our campus are the outdoor sports court and observatory. The sports court is adjacent to the soccer field and includes two tennis courts, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court and a running track. Private tennis lessons are offered by professional instructors. Surrounded by a stone and wrought iron fence, this facility is located on Highway 119.

The observatory houses our telescope, the second largest in the state of Alabama. Scheduled classes with a qualified instructor provide an opportunity for teachers, parents, and students to view the planets, the mountains, craters on the moon, and other interesting objects in the night sky. Through powerful lenses, it is possible to see Jupiter and its moons, and Saturn and its rings.
