Academics - Library - Book Club

Joining the Club is easy.  All you have to do is earn Book Club Points!  Points are earned by reading books.  When you earn ten points, you will receive a reading certificate and a free book from the Bruno book store!  This is a book for you to take home and keep!  Every time you earn ten points, you get another free book.  You can choose from any book that we have in our book store, but remember:  these books can only be purchased with "Bruno Book Points."

In order to receive points, you must read books that are appropriate for you reading level.  If you are unsure if a book is within your reading level, just ask a teacher.  These do not have to be Accelerated Reader books.  We have many types of great books in our library.  For each book you read, you must complete a book report or take an Accelerated Reader test. You can use a combination of several types of book reports and/or take the Accelerated Reader tests to earn your points.

The written and oral reports must include:
  • the title of the book
  • the author's name
  • the illustrator's name (if there is an illustrator)
  • main characters
  • a summary of the book
  • reasons why you would or would not recommend the book

Each student will be given a Book Club Folder to keep their reports.  This will help you keep up with each report and the number of points you have earned.  You must be very careful not to loose your folder.  when you earn ten points, you become a Book Club Member.  For each level-appropriate chapter book that you read, you will earn Two Book Club points.  For each level-appropriate easy book you read, you will earn on Book Club point.  Remember, books that you read as part of your classroom assignments also count towards the Book Club.  Earn ten points, and you become an honorary member of the Bruno Book Club.

Finally, you might have noticed the trees on the back wall of the library.  If so, you may have noticed that they are covered in leaves, flowers, snowflakes, birds, butterflies, frogs, and worms.  The students have worked very hard reading and earning these items for the tree.  When a student ears ten Book Club points and becomes a Book Club Member, he or she gets to put a green leaf on the tree with their name on it!  Earn twenty points and you get to put a maple leaf on the tree.  Earn thirty points and you get to put a flower on the tree.  Earn forty points and you get to put an apple on the tree.  Earn fifty points and you get a snowflake for the tree.  We want our tree to grow bigger and better.  With the help of our wonderful, hard-working students, we know our tree will grow!
