Library

The JSB Library is designed to be utilized by students, teachers, and parents. We offer a wide variety of media in our collection, including over 14,000 books, DVDS, magazines, and a reference section. The goals of the JSB Library are: to provide support to teachers and parents, to promote literature appreciation, to promote independent use of the library, to teach effect use of technology, and to encourage life-long learning in our students.

One of the most important functions of the library media center is to promote reading and literature appreciation. We do this through story-time and by offering students a variety of books and reading materials, from classical literature to new selections from today’s most popular authors. We also do book talks, author studies, display boards, and library skills classes. Each year we hold a fall book fair. This is an opportunity for students to purchase books and for our library to see what new and exciting selections are available to purchase for the collection.

In today’s world, information literacy is vital for students. Our goal for students is to be proficient with current technology. Computer lab instruction is one component of library class. Students practice keyboarding skills using the school’s typing pal program. Grades 1st-8th participate in a multimedia project where they research a topic, write and publish through Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher.
