DRAMA

What is Drama?

We all know drama is acting. It’s sometimes music and dance. But did you know drama is the one subject your child will study that will encompass everything else your child learns in school? From the literature of Shakespeare to the history of ancient Greek theatre, from computer generated music and lights to the economics of budgeting a production, drama helps make learning fun. In drama class, students look inside themselves to understand the motivations of others. They work on their public speaking skills. They learn to think “outside the box.” In one exercise, students may try to communicate with each other without language. In another, they might study a duck and try to imitate its movements and sound. Even the shyest child finds an outlet in drama class. Many of the children who are afraid to “act” find the theatre games so fun they forget they are standing in front of a group of their peers.
