Maria Montessori's term "sowing the seeds of interest" could be used to describe the overall goal for a second language program. This means creating enjoyment, awareness, and eagerness to learn more. It also means different children will achieve different levels of communicative competence, given each child’s individual needs, personality, and learning process. In The Absorbent Mind, Maria Montessori referred to this "creation of language" as the child's greatest achievement. She also spoke of childhood as a "sensitive period" for language which enables children to focus on progressively more refined aspects of language during each stage of development through age twelve.

The Spanish Program is based on the Montessori educational philosophy as well as on the Montessori approach to individual child language development, learning styles, and specific techniques. Our program is structured to emphasize both the acquisition of the language and an understanding and appreciation of Spanish speaking cultures. The goal is to instill a love of the language and a positive attitude toward learning another language.

The Spanish Curriculum is designed to develop a steady growth throughout the grade levels. We do not expect all children to become bilingual. We expect early exposure to the Spanish language to create a facility for understanding and speaking the language and greater ease in later study. Students are presented with new and more challenging tasks as they move from one grade level to the next. Repetition of key vocabulary and grammatical concepts ensures that the student will retain the important information essential to oral and written communication. Students will learn to understand, speak, read, and write Spanish words, phrases, sentences and stories.
